Every four years since 1789, someone has sworn the same oath of office that Barack Obama will repeat on Jan. 20. Often something else has happened to make the day truly memorable. In 1829, it was a drunken mob trashing the White House. In 1973, it was war protesters. This photo slideshow captures some of those inaugural celebrations over the past 220 years.
